This is really funny, and so true. I haven't experienced it yet as a vegan, since I really only fully committed to veganism last week. But as a vegetarian previously I certainly had a lot of meat-eaters questioning my dietary choices. I can only begin to imagine the ride ahead as vegan! Strange though how people think you can be a vegetarian/vegan and still eat chicken?

I think a lot of people don't realise how cheap meat is these days compared to in the past. And how that is because of factory farming.

Meat is ALWAYS going to be more expensive to produce than vegetables, because you don't need to RAISE vegetables, you just GROW them. Animals have more needs, so unless something is going horribly wrong (as it is) meat should always be a luxury. When my grandparents were young, animal products were a luxury. They might have had meat twice a week, and that was a good week.

I personally don't think I'd ever eat meat, (I don't see it as my right, but I'm not a welfarist) even if the world was fixed tomorrow, but I don't have a problem with people raising and caring for their own animals and consuming them. I think we'd all do just fine on vegan diets, but if people really are set on eating meat, then they have to realise they would have to eat it a quarter as often (at LEAST)if we were to produce all animal products ethically because if it's not a luxury, then its being produced cheaply, and that ALWAYS means bad treatment for the animals.

I totally agree with all of this. I also happen to think though that even if in an ideal world, we could rear animals to have happy, pain free lives and eating meat would be better for us than refraining from it, it still doesn't change the fact that in our world right now eating the meat produced by factory farms has to, HAS TO be far more harmful than refraining from it.
I don't care if it IS some magical super-protein enriched food, all the chemicals and foeces it encounters is surely enough to cancel any of the benefits out. And for the sake of argument, if it turned out that eating well reared, non chemically enhanced meat as an omnivore turned out to be healthier than being vegan, that wouldn't make me an omnivore. Because I'd rather be slightly unhealthier, and not support the torture and death of millions of animals. (And recent studies have indicated vegans are generally healthier anyways).

THATS why the "its natural" argument annoys me. So what if its natural?

Sorry I realise I just ranted incoherently, but you know what its like. Good article (y)

Does art imitate life or life imitate art? A chilling thought.

This BG episode reminds me of this short video: Industrial Slaughter
